Many of you may already know that I can suffer quite badly from anxiety, and it will be a godsend if it doesn't affect me for even a day. I've seen it break up relationships, try and disrupt my grades and also make my social life suffer. Anxiety is a right old bugger, there's no denying it. 

 

However, one of the worst parts of anxiety for me is its link with coffee-consumption. When I was at University and went for a chat with their health people, I was advised to cut down on my caffeinated products. Which led me onto a little path of self-analysis I didn't think I'd ever have to go down. To coffee or not to coffee?

 

Now I know to a lot of you, you'll think I'm stupid for even debating whether it's worth drinking the same amount of coffee and paying the price of it through an increased level of anxiety. However, as many of you already know, especially if you've read some of my other blog posts regarding the personal side of coffee I'm a part of, you'll know it's not all that easy. 

 

I originally began drinking coffee and visiting coffee shops as an escape from realities I was facing. Instead of going out and getting incredibly drunk in clubs (like many people of my age at the time), I was sitting for hours on end with a book, my laptop, and a gorgeously fluffy cappuccino. 

 

I mean, it's safe to say that coffee helped to keep me sane throughout some periods of extreme stress - even if it didn't increase my heart rate and contribute towards the onset of anxious feelings/thoughts. 

 

 

So this is what I mean in the title of this blog post - it's very difficult to try and go down the correct path in regards to your 'wellbeing'. In one way, I arguably would feel much better (although debatable as I have cut back before) if I just follow recommendations. However, stripping myself of such a pivotal part of my life, my sanctuary away from the real world, to me would be much more detrimental.
